How it works

The active ingredients in Children’s Paedamin Decongestant and Antihistamine have a complementary effect. A fast-acting antihistamine (Diphenhydramine) helps reduce sneezing, itchy watery eyes and so helps your child have a more restful sleep.

At the same time, a drying agent (Phenylephrine) helps clear nasal passages and reduces a dripping nose.

The antihistamine, Diphenhydramine Hydrochloride, in Children’s Paedamin Decongestant and Antihistamine sets this product apart from other kids medicated cold products like Demazin Syrup and Dimetapp Elixir.

Diphenhydramine Hydrochloride has been shown to provide noticeable relief from cold and allergy symptoms within 15 minutes* and provides fast relief of symptoms like sneezing and itchy, watery eyes. Diphenhydramine has a much shorter half-life than the antihistamines used in Demazin Syrup and Dimetapp Elixir.

Half-life is quite a complex concept but basically it’s the time taken for the medication to be processed and eliminated by the body.

The shorter the half-life the better it is for kids because side-effects are reduced. A short half-life is beneficial because it means the medicine leaves your child’s system rapidly so they are less likely to experience grogginess the next day.

That means they can get back to the important business of playing sooner.
